Larger cruise ships will be banned from the historic center of Venice, the Italian government said, according to the BBC. Ships weighing more than 1.000 tons will be diverted from certain waterways, with the regulations coming into effect from September this year. The move by the Italian government follows an accident in June when a cruise ship collided with a pier, injuring five people.
