Tourism cannot be the sole driver of development, nor is the purpose of tourism to be an end in itself, without added value. In the current extraordinary situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, it is often implied in the media that it is a big problem that tourism generates around 20% of GDP and that we should move away from its development.
