According to data from the eVisitor system, in 2021, Zagreb County recorded 87,5% more tourist arrivals and 49% more overnight stays compared to 2020. Domestic tourists recorded 59% more arrivals and 9% more overnight stays in 2021. Foreign tourists recorded 110% more arrivals and 91% more overnight stays compared to 2020.
Compared to tourism results in 2019, last year saw 58% of arrivals and 69% of overnight stays recorded in 2019. The most foreign tourists in 2021 were from Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, the USA, France and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
By type of accommodation in 2021, the most overnight stays were in hotels (40%), household facilities (25%), other hospitality facilities for accommodation (19%) and campsites (10%). The most visited destinations were Velika Gorica, Sveta Nedelja, Samobor, Jastrebarsko and Ivanić-Grad.
"Given that 2021 was also marked by the coronavirus pandemic, I believe that we can be very satisfied with the achieved tourism results. Tourism workers have made great efforts so that domestic and foreign guests can enjoy the diverse offer of our destination while feeling safe, and the Zagreb County Tourist Board is systematically working on promoting and attracting tourists to the green Zagreb ring through various campaigns.", said the director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, Ivana Alilović, adding that the tourism sector has once again shown how adaptable and innovative it is and how synergy achieves the best results.
She added that last year, interest in vacation homes that offer safety, top-notch service, and an authentic experience increased in Zagreb County.
Last year, Zagreb County awarded one million kuna in grants to tourism entrepreneurs to increase the standard and quality of service in their facilities, through the renovation and equipping of accommodation units and the development and improvement of additional facilities such as swimming pools, wellness and other recreational, sports and entertainment facilities.
