With today's landing of the first United Airlines aircraft at Sveti Jeronim Airport, or Split Airport, the first historic direct Split - New York flight was officially established, opening a new chapter in Croatia's international connectivity with one of the world's most important markets.
In addition to the existing line New York - Dubrovnik, the new line to Split additionally opens up space for the growth of arrivals from the American market.
"This route brings a strong boost to tourism and is part of our air connectivity development program, in which we have invested more than 3,3 million euros through strategic partnerships with airlines, with the clear goal of strengthening the year-round accessibility and competitiveness of the destination. Split is positioned as a key Mediterranean destination, more accessible than ever, and we are already working on introducing an additional flight next year. This is a strong step forward in strengthening the availability of Croatia and an additional confirmation of the interest of one of the most important distant markets." emphasized the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Tonči Glavina.
This year, Split Airport is connected to 26 countries and a total of 86 direct destinations.
"This important transatlantic link further strengthens the position of our destination in the American market and opens up new opportunities for tourism. We welcomed the first flight on the New York - Split route today, officially starting another exciting chapter in connecting Central Dalmatia with the world.", emphasized Ivana Valdović, director of the Split-Dalmatia Tourist Board.
