As part of the international conference TouRisk 2026, which will be held from April 13th to 15th in Petrčane near Zadar, was awarded for the first time in Croatia yesterday. TouRisk Awards 2026, awards that recognize tourism entities, spaces and destinations that do not view safety as a formality, but as an integral part of the quality, management and long-term resilience of the tourism product.
These are the first domestic awards dedicated exclusively to security and risk management in tourism, and were awarded in eight category: for hotel, camp, marina, national park or nature park, organization of events and for large, urban and boutique destinations.
The TouRisk awards do not recognize the absence of incidents, but a systematic approach to safety in all segments - from organization, procedures and prevention to stakeholder coordination, risk management and crisis preparedness.
"Safety in tourism is no longer just a matter of operational preparation, but also of product quality, guest trust and the long-term competitiveness of the destination. That is why we launched the TouRisk Awards, to recognize and reward those who think about safety systematically, responsibly and in the long term, and to send a message to the entire sector that safety is one of the foundations of quality tourism."", He said Goran Koscak, organizer of the TouRisk conference.
The safest hotels, campsites, marinas, parks, events and destinations that systematically incorporate safety into the tourism product were declared:

Award for The safest national park / nature park in 2026 it is assigned Medvednica Nature Park, and the award was received by Marina Popijač, director of the Medvednica Nature Park Public Institution.
Award for The safest event of 2026 it is assigned Špancirfest, and was taken over by Jelena Toth, director of the Varaždin Tourist Board.
Award for The safest major destination in 2026 it is assigned Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and the award was received by Irena Peršić Živadinov, director of the Kvarner Tourist Board, and Hari Brnad, chief of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department.
Award for The safest urban destination in 2026 it is assigned City of Varaždin, and the award was received by Neven Bosilj, Mayor of the City of Varaždin.
Award for The safest boutique destination in 2026 it is assigned Jelsi, and the award was accepted by Milan Vranković, director of the Jelsa Tourist Board.
The TouRisk Awards 2026 further confirmed the central message of the TouRisk conference: safety in tourism is not a separate function, but a strategic framework that influences the guest experience, the resilience of the destination, and the value of the overall tourism product.
Awards are not given based on impression or desire, adds conference organizer Goran Koscak and emphasizes how "awards are based on self-assessment, analysis of open data sources, hybrid mystery shopping and validation in cooperation with public institutions."
This year's conference brings together more than 200 participants from the tourism, security, technology and public institutions sectors, and through lectures, panels and award ceremonies, it opens up a space for the exchange of knowledge and strengthening the security capacities of Croatian tourism.
