The headquarters presented new measures, which will come into effect from Monday

Due to the increase in the number of infected people, the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia is introducing new measures starting Monday. Some are being extended, but not changed. 

According to the new decision, public gatherings and outdoor events for more than 50 people will be prohibited (previously 100), and those with Covid-confirmations and with the consent of local headquarters will be limited to 200 people, Božinović announced at a press conference.

Public gatherings and outdoor events for more than 50 people would be prohibited, gatherings with COVID certificates with the consent of local headquarters would no longer be possible with an unlimited number of people, but would be limited to 200.

Also, a ban on gatherings in closed spaces with more than 25 people, not more than 50 as was the case previously. "When we talk about gatherings with mandatory presentation of COVID certificates and with the consent of local headquarters, it will also not be possible with an unlimited number of people but with 100. Private celebrations would be limited to 20 people, some to 30 with the exception of private celebrations where everyone would have COVID certificates, which could be attended by 50 people. As for catering facilities, the most important recommendations of the Croatian Institute of Public Health would be more intensively controlled - limiting the number of guests, maintaining a distance of one and a half meters, using masks while not sitting and consuming food and drinks, disinfecting the space, and ventilating. Secondly, the number of spectators at sports competitions would be limited, at which spectators can also be present in addition to having COVID certificates. As for indoor spaces in sports facilities, a maximum of 20 percent of the stands could be filled, and up to 40 percent of the stands in the open air," said Minister Davor Božinović, reports HRT.

Also, the use of masks would be increased and would be mandatory regardless of having a COVID certificate, and at religious ceremonies, at artistic performances, at cinema screenings and exhibitions in museums and galleries, and at sessions of representative bodies.The third type of measures refers to the obligation for employers to organize work from home whenever possible. This is what motivates us when we talk about the state and public sector in order to provide services to citizens and reduce mobility. The main goal is to slow down, it is not realistic to talk about the fact that the spread of the omicron variant can be prevented with the measures. We will do everything in order to slow down the spread and thereby give space to the healthcare staff to organize and for everyone who needs to receive healthcare, Bozinovic said.

School will start as normal on Monday as planned. There will be no changes to the operation of catering facilities.

In the last 24 hours, 3.911 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been recorded, bringing the total number of active cases in Croatia to 38.666. Among them, 1.846 patients are receiving hospital treatment, of which 245 are on a ventilator. 41 people have died.

As of January 6, 2022, 4.793.621 doses of vaccine had been used, and 55,83% of the total population, or 66,50% of the adult population, had been vaccinated.
