The project "Protection, promotion and tourism valorization of the Adriatic maritime heritage" or ARCA ADRIATICA for short, is part of the third priority axis "Environment and cultural heritage" of the INTERREG Italy-Croatia program.

The implementation of the project officially began on January 1, 2019, and will last until December 31, 2021. Since work continues on the joint protection, promotion and tourist valorization of the Adriatic maritime heritage, the ARCA ADRIATICA project represents a kind of continuation of the successfully implemented EU projects Mala barka and Mala barka 2.

Main project goal is the development of a joint tourist product based on the principles of social and ecological sustainability, which at the same time valorizes, preserves, protects and promotes the rich maritime heritage of the border area

On Thursday, December 9, 2021, the study tour as part of the ARCA ADRIATICA project began in Opatija with the presentation of the final ARCA conference at the Ambasador Hotel, where participants could hear about the results of projects from the Croatian and Italian sides of the coast.

After the successfully held final conference, the participants headed to Rovinj where a guided walk through the city took place. Batana Heritage Walk from the Interpretation and Documentation Center to 'Spacio Matika'' with a presentation of maritime heritage and all the results made as part of the project, along with the gastronomic and musical heritage of Rovinj, along with a themed dinner at Spacio with musical accompaniment by KUD-SAC Marko Garbin.

Arca Adriatica Study Tour 2

The next day was reserved for a guided tour of Opatija and a panoramic boat ride where the participants learned interesting facts about the maritime heritage of the Kvarner region, which has been valorized through the ARCA ADRIATICA project. In the afternoon, a trip to Kraljevica and a visit to the Kraljevica Visitor Center 'Frankopan Trails' was organized with the aim of recognizing the potential of networking different heritage stories into one tourist product.

The key results of the project implementation are expected to be an increase in the accessibility of maritime heritage to all groups of society (virtual museum, open-air museums, interpretation centers), an increase in the number of visitors in the border area, an increase in the number of permanently protected artifacts of maritime intangible and tangible heritage (through interpretation centers, virtual museum, maritime heritage database, technical characteristics of vessels), an increase in tourist infrastructure based on maritime heritage (interpretation center in Malinska, Cervia, Venice, Rovinj and Tkon, restoration of small boats that will be living examples and exhibits in harbors and at regattas), and greater visibility of the included destinations.
