Project to build the world's largest airport on an artificial island unveiled

Plans include four runways and a 900.000-square-foot terminal.

The project is expected to cost $4,3 billion and cover a total of 20 square kilometers, according to the South China Morning Post. The new island airport will be located in Dalian, a port city in northeastern China. With completion scheduled for 2035, Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport will overtake Hong Kong International Airport (12,48 km2) as the world's largest airport.
