Croatian MEP Nikolina Brnjac has been elected by the European Parliament as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, Social Affairs and Education in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.
"I am extremely honoured to have been chosen by my colleagues to represent the European Parliament as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Economic Affairs within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean is of great geopolitical and economic importance, connecting three continents - Europe, Africa and Asia, including 20 coastal states and covering an area inhabited by over half a billion people. The European Union, the Mediterranean region and the countries of the Southern Neighbourhood are united by many common aspirations, challenges and perspectives.", said Brnjac.
The Union for the Mediterranean is an intergovernmental assembly established to strengthen multilateral cooperation, inclusive development and stability in the Mediterranean region.
"Our common goal is to promote economic and social development in the Mediterranean region by strengthening cooperation between European and Mediterranean countries. Economic growth, social cohesion and education are key to the stability and prosperity of the entire region, and I will strive to ensure that these priorities are strongly promoted. In light of the current sensitive situation that has escalated in the Middle East, the European Union's relations with the countries of this region become even more important", she added.
The delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean is the only European Parliament delegation chaired ex officio by Parliament President Roberta Metsola, so MP Brnjac will work in close cooperation with her.
"In addition, I am convinced that with Dubravka Šuica, the future Commissioner for the Mediterranean, we will achieve successful cooperation on all issues concerning this strategically important region, both for Croatia and the European Union.", concluded the former Croatian Minister of Tourism and Sports.
