Imagine arriving at the entrance to Himeji Castle in Japan and discovering that the person next to you is paying less than half your ticket price, just because they live there. It sounds strange. Maybe unfair. But the Japanese city of Himeji is doing just that as of March 1, 2026, and the results are, to put it mildly, interesting. A debate is currently taking place in Spain that could change the way European destinations think about one another.
