Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Ante Mandic, from the Department of Tourism and Economy at the Faculty of Economics in Split, has been included in the prestigious Stanford's list of the 2% most cited scientists in the world.
It is one of the most important global rankings of scientific excellence, which is prepared every year by researchers from Stanford University in cooperation with the publisher Elsevier.
Stanford's list is based on extensive bibliometric analysis which includes more than 8 million scientists from all fields, and the criteria include the number of citations, co-authorships, impact indices and other indicators of international recognition. Being ranked among the top 2% confirms exceptional international reach and influence of Professor Mandić's scientific work, but also the importance of the topic of tourism in global academic research.
The Faculty of Economics in Split pointed out: "We congratulate Professor Mandić on this great professional success and thank him for his dedicated scientific work that makes our faculty recognizable in the world.. "
Professor Mandić himself emphasized on the occasion of the recognition that such milestones are not just a matter of visibility, but of perspective: "This year I was included in the Stanford-Elsevier 2025 global list of 2% of the most cited researchers in the world. While metrics can rarely capture the full scope of academic work, this moment provides a quiet confirmation: that research based on complexity, collaboration and long-term commitment still has reach.”
He added that his work often takes place at the edges of disciplines, where they intersect. tourism management, resilience and sustainability.
“If this recognition says anything, it is that this kind of science continues to resonate, and that rigorous and critical inquiry remains important, even when it doesn’t fit into pre-established frameworks. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has shaped this journey: co-authors, colleagues, reviewers, students, and communities. The best work is never done alone.” Mandic concluded.
Professor Ante Mandić has been one of the key Croatian researchers in the field of tourism and sustainability for many years with his scientific work, and this recognition once again confirms that domestic science can compete on equal terms with the global academic community.
In this spirit, we present two recent scientific papers co-authored by Associate Professor Dr. Sc. Ante Mandic from the Department of Tourism and Economy at the Faculty of Economics, University of Split. Research is trying to find the answer: Can tourism be transformed into a climate value instead of a climate cost?
