Ten sailors were fined in the water areas of Krk and Rab for illegal speedboating

In the midst of preparations for the new nautical season, the Rijeka Maritime Police is conducting increased surveillance of navigation safety.

Numerous sailors have been fined for dangerous gliding within the legally prohibited 300-meter zone from the coast, while some have also been sanctioned for violating the Maritime Code.

As we can see, the start of the summer season in Kvarner also brings the usual challenges at sea. The Rijeka Maritime Police Station reported increased controls, which recorded a number of violations, and a large number of domestic and foreign boaters were sanctioned for gliding too close to the coast.

Swimmer safety

According to the regular reports of the Rijeka Maritime Police Station, several dozen offenses of illegal speedboating were recorded in the waters of the islands of Krk, Lošinj and Rab.

The legal regulations are clear: speedboating is strictly prohibited at a distance of less than 300 meters from the coast, in order to ensure the safety of bathers and an undisturbed stay in the sea.

Among the violators found were guests from numerous European countries, including citizens of Germany, Austria, Italy and others. All negligent boat and speedboat drivers were fined in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

Penalties for other maritime offenses

In addition to speeding and illegal gliding within the protected coastal zone, police officers found boaters committing other violations. The following cases were recorded:

• Improper display of the flag: Foreign citizens who have not displayed the flag of the Republic of Croatia on their vessels, which is a direct violation of the Maritime Code.
• Fishing without a license: Both domestic and foreign citizens were caught fishing without a valid license.

Police appeal for safety at sea

The police regularly issue appeals to all participants in maritime traffic. Given that the fines for gliding within the prohibited zone are high, often in the amount of 400 euros and up depending on the severity of the offense, the emphasis is still on prevention.

Boaters are urged to behave responsibly, and swimmers are urged to be cautious and swim only within the fenced area of ​​maintained beaches, or up to 100 meters from the natural shore.
