Croatian travel agencies continued to record growth in tourist traffic in 2025, especially when it comes to organized trips abroad, airline packages and cruises. This is shown by the latest data Central Bureau of Statistics, according to which the research included 1.476 Croatian travel agencies and their branches.

A total of 5.772 employees are employed in the sector, of which 4.276 are permanent employees.

Domestic tourists still travel the most in Croatia

In 2025, Croatian travel agencies organized multi-day trips for a total of 752 thousand domestic tourists. The majority of them, or 53,3%, traveled within Croatia, while 46,7% chose foreign destinations.

Compared to the previous year, the number of domestic tourists on multi-day trips increased by 2,6%. Travel within Croatia grew more modestly, by one percent, while travel abroad increased by 4,5%.

A total of 1,5 million overnight stays were recorded on domestic multi-day trips, with an average stay of four nights per trip.

Italy remains the most popular foreign destination

When it comes to foreign trips by domestic tourists, Italy is still by far the most popular destination. As many as 25,8% of all organized multi-day trips were to Italy. This is followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, France, Spain, Germany and Slovenia.

The greatest growth in interest was recorded in trips to Spain and Turkey, while distant destinations such as Malta, Japan, Australia, Cyprus and China also achieved significant growth in overnight stays.

Of particular note is the continued strong growth in cruise travel. The number of domestic tourists on cruises increased by 28%, while overnight stays increased by 30,6%.

Domestic visitors most often choose Austria for day trips

Croatian travel agencies also organized one-day trips for a total of 445 thousand domestic visitors.

The majority of one-day trips still refer to Croatia, but interest in shorter trips abroad is also growing. Among foreign destinations, Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Hungary are the most popular.

Compared to 2024, the number of one-day trips to foreign countries increased by 7,3%.

Germany remains the most important issuing market

When it comes to foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia organized by domestic agencies, Germany maintains its leading position. In 2025, Croatian travel agencies organized multi-day trips for 2,3 million foreign tourists who achieved a total of 12,5 million overnight stays.

The largest share of overnight stays was made by guests from Germany, followed by the United Kingdom, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovenia. Significant growth was recorded in the markets of the USA, Hungary and Slovakia, while at the same time there was a decrease in overnight stays by guests from Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom.

Cruise travel also continues to grow among foreign guests. In 2025, 852 thousand overnight stays were recorded on cruise trips, which represents a growth of 6,4% compared to the previous year.

Airplanes are an increasingly important form of transport

CBS data also show changes in the way domestic tourists travel. Although buses remain the dominant means of transport on organized trips, especially within Croatia, interest in air travel is growing.

When traveling to foreign countries, almost 40% of domestic tourists used a plane, which represents an increase of 20,5% compared to 2024. At the same time, on domestic trips, most tourists still use their own transportation.

Private accommodation increasingly popular among foreign guests

Domestic tourists spend most of their nights in hotels during organized trips to Croatia, which still account for more than 60% of total overnight stays. However, at the same time, interest in apartments, holiday homes and tourist resorts is growing.

For foreign tourists, the trend is even more pronounced. More than half of all overnight stays were made in private accommodation, i.e. in rooms, apartments and holiday homes. Compared to the previous year, the number of nights spent by foreign tourists in the camps also increased.

Data from the CBS confirms the continuation of changes in the habits of travelers, with growing interest in more flexible forms of travel, distant destinations and more individualized accommodation, while organized travel continues to play an important role in Croatia's overall tourist traffic.
