The long-standing cooperation between Osijek and Subotica, through cultural heritage, is further deepened by the Majestic Zoo's project. The project's kick-off conference, which aims to develop and promote family tourism, was held in Osijek. A special emphasis in the project is on zoos that will be transformed into inclusive tourist destinations adapted to families, children, nature lovers and tourists, including children with special needs.
"I am extremely pleased that after the secessionist heritage that was the backbone of the cooperation between Osijek and Subotica, we continue to work together on a new project, in this case on the development of family tourism, which is one of the most important segments of the global tourism sector that is expected to grow further in the future. With the numerous challenges and changes that await it, as well as other tourism segments, there is an increasing demand for a diverse tourist offer that will simultaneously meet the needs of children and adults. The importance of family tourism also stems from the fact that it is children's first contact with tourism, its advantages and potential, therefore it is important to shape a tourist experience that will inspire them to travel later on.", said the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Osijek, Tajana Rogulja.
The Osijek kick-off conference was also attended by the director of the Palić Zoo, Sonja Mandić, who, among other things, emphasized the excellent cooperation between the zoos in recent years, as well as the importance of this project, which will increase tourism potential and animal housing capacity.
"In both zoos, old children's playgrounds will be replaced, new facilities for housing animals and an outdoor classroom for educational programs will be built. In the second part of the tourist board's activities, new interesting products will be prepared in the zoos, which are attractions in themselves, however, their attractiveness needs to be maintained and improved.", she said Mandic.
