A destination video that does what most don't: makes you want to come

Think of an adventure - a new destination video of Karlovac County.

Most tourist videos do the same thing: shots of nature, necessarily shots of drones, sun, landscape, sea... which have no meaning or clear differentiation, in fact, it's as if they were all shot in the same scenario without any meaningful concept, without a story and without any attention, and to make matters even worse, if there is no name of the destination at the end of the video, the same video can be placed anywhere in the world (ok except for some shots that are very specific to the destination, but are not so well known to the wider audience) because they are all the same - as a stock video.

No emotions, no story, and no reaction or desire for more information - except of course for the beautiful "stock" shots.

And that's why we're extremely happy that the new destination video "Come up with an adventure." from Karlovac County Tourist Board is anything but the above.

Under the direction of the director Šimuna Šitum (Starlight films) and in-house production Envy, the video featured local actors: Pedja Gvozdic, Petra Cicvaric, Nino Pavlekovic and Sara Lustig, who through their roles further emphasized emotion, warmth, and connection with the space.

As stated by the director of the Karlovac County Tourist Board, Željko Fanjak, ""We decided to use everything local to showcase what tourism is all about - local actors, local food, local resources."

Because destination marketing is no longer "here's what we have", classic shots and that's it, but a narrative of what you will experience and how you will feel. The new Karlovac County destination video does this excellently because it not only sells content, but above all the emotion that makes that content desirable.

In this video, Karlovac County eschews the classic tourist postcards and instead builds a fun mini-film about two couples trying to plan the perfect weekend together. Each character suggests an adventure for the other: from nature and hiking to rafting, romance and gastronomy, while everything turns into a cute competition of "who knows who better".

The video is not just about attractions; it depicts relationships, friendship dynamics and the humor of everyday life, creating emotional framework within which the destination becomes a backdrop for shared experiences.

Also, an important segment is how the destination appears organically, not as a product to be sold, but as a space for emotions and relationships, which draws us even more into the video, the whole story, and the thinking.

Here we have multiple segments in the context of storytelling. From the plot (who will come up with a better adventure), the characters that carry the plot, humor and dialogue, the natural dynamics between friends, and the dramaturgical arc (proposals, action, common ending)

The shots and character dynamics are so convincing that it feels like we are watching our own friends on a journey, and this sense of closeness makes We want to be part of that story: Pack your backpack and join them on this spontaneous weekend adventure.

Because the video invites the viewer to identify with the team and "make up their own story". There is no pathos, no excessive gloss, everything seems like a real mini-film and the characters carry the entire narrative, which further creates authenticity, breaks down the barrier of "promo material", draws the viewer into the story, allows for better attention retention, and we know how difficult it is today to get attention, and even harder to keep it for more than 3 seconds.

Maybe now is the best time to watch the new destination video "Come up with an adventure." from Karlovac County Tourist Board, so let's see if it left the same or similar impression on you.

The promotional film will be used for online promotion, social networks, tourism fairs and professional gatherings, as well as for the needs of local tourism stakeholders, all with the goal of better visibility of Karlovac County on the domestic and international market.

"In a time when tourists do not want to be just observers, but participants, this video perfectly matches contemporary travel trends and invites visitors to connect with the local community, to feel the authenticity of the moment and become part of the story. We remain the most visited continental county in Croatia after the City of Zagreb, and this video is an important step in further strengthening our position and attracting new visitors," added the director of the Karlovac County Regional Tourist Board Željko Fanjak.

There are several other key elements that stand out throughout the script, which are clear proof that nothing is accidental, but rather purposeful and meaningful.

The video clearly states that Karlovac County targets middle-aged guests (the generation from 30 to 50 years old) who balance between work, obligations and a fast-paced lifestyle and increasingly appreciate short, spontaneous trips to nature.

That's why the first moments like "Karlo, put down your phone" and the joke that "the company won't collapse without it" introduce the motif of escaping from everyday life and returning to the simple joys of travel, socializing, and vacation. Trends that stand out in all the research, as well as being in line with global UN Tourism trends toward wellbeing travel, a slower pace, and a return to the simple joys of socializing, nature, and vacation.

or more simply: return to oneself through relationships with people and real, meaningful rest in today's digital and stressful rhythm of life.

This is an audience that today travels in smaller groups of friends and increasingly seeks a combination of activities, gastronomy, and peaceful moments, which is shown in the video through rafting, hiking, and a romantic scene "just the two of us... no signal...".

At the same time, the concept "we plan your weekend - you plan ours" positions Karlovac County as an ideal weekend destination for guests like Zagreb, Rijeka and Dalmatia: close enough for a spontaneous getaway, yet diverse enough to offer a little adventure, relaxation or romantic reset within just two days. This narrative directly targets the modern weekend traveler who is not looking for monumental attractions, but for meaningful respite and experiences to share - both with the team and with their partner.

A weekend getaway is the most powerful tool for attracting guests in the long term: if we win someone over in those two days, it is almost certain that they will come back again, either for another weekend or for a longer vacation.

Karlovac County intuitively portrays this in the video through simple but powerful moments of delight that clearly show how the destination is experienced, not just viewed.

The first impression is crucial: once a guest has a positive feeling, the most important mechanism in tourism is activated: emotional conversion. This is the moment when a person says "we had a great time, we're coming back again", when we turn guests into our ambassadors, and we know that "word of mouth" has always been and will always be the strongest marketing.

And it is precisely this kind of experience that is the greatest value a weekend destination can deliver, because it creates a cycle of repeat visits that builds a stable and loyal guest base in the long term.

Finally, the video ends with everyone socializing and toasting: ""You'll like it, it'll be great" - thus symbolically closing the story with a message of togetherness, warmth, and simple and unfortunately "lost in time" true human joy. Such an ending is not just a cute detail, but a key moment in which the viewer completely identifies with the characters and, at least for a moment, wants to be part of their team.

This is precisely the power of this video: it doesn't sell a destination through a list of attractions, just drone shots, but through a sense of belonging and authentic connection. This is modern tourism, one that is not measured by the number of shots, but by the depth of the experience.

Global trends show a very clear direction: the public no longer wants postcards, but people. And this video delivers just that: real emotions in real situations. This video is also an important example of good practice for other destinations: it shows how an authentic local story, combined with professional storytelling, can be turned into a powerful promotional tool that goes beyond classic marketing.

If every destination video has one basic task: to awaken the desire to come and that spark of "I want to be there too" - then the aforementioned video does it in the first moments, drawing the viewer into the action as an active participant.
