Based on more than 232 million verified reviews from real travelers, Booking.com has announced winners of the tenth annual award Traveler Review Awards 2022.
A total of 1.261.273 accommodation providers and taxi and car rental providers in 220 countries and territories worldwide received recognition in the form of the 2022 Traveller Review Award, including 58,630 in Croatia.
To be eligible, properties had to achieve an average review score of at least 8,0 (out of 10) based on at least 3 or 5 reviews by November 30, 2021. Only users who had actually stayed at the property were able to write a review about their experience on Booking.com, as these reviews are never edited or changed.
Croatia ranks sixth among the most awarded countries
When it comes to accommodations, Italy leads thanks to the largest number of buildings awarded the award in 2022 (162.272), followed by Spain (93.130), France (89.186), Croatia (58.630), Germany (69.702), Russia (59.661), United Kingdom (53.623), Brazil (46.928), United States (43.417) and Australia (18.663).

Travelers still prefer apartments and unique accommodations
For the fifth year in a row, apartments have topped the 2022 Traveller Review Awards as the most awarded property type in the world, with 561.843 partners receiving recognition for their efforts.
Hotels take second place, with 172.530 awarded facilities, followed by holiday homes (148.962), private accommodation (98.466) and accommodation with breakfast (79.859).
When it comes to houses, apartments and other unique accommodations, Italy leads with the highest number of awarded properties (144.658), and the top five also includes Spain (83.654), France (79.278), Croatia (57.629) and Germany (56.977).
Friendly and welcoming staff makes the difference
When it comes to the individual aspects that guests valued most during their stays at the 1.259.594 properties that received the Traveler Review Award in 2022, staff (9,0), cleanliness (8,9) and location (8,9) received the highest average ratings globally.
This is significantly above other aspects that were rated, such as facilities (8,6) or value for money (8,5), which shows the importance of these warm, friendly interactions during the stay and the importance of health and hygiene during the spread of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Booking.com also revealed which the most welcoming places in Croatia according to traveler reviews. For the second year in a row, the friendliest place is Selište Drežničko, located in the friendliest region, Karlovac County, followed by Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Šibenik-Knin County, and Split-Dalmatia County.
