VR on wheels completed the XR tour through Opatija, Ogulin and Samobor

Project VR on wheels - Long weekend tour 2026 has completed a four-day XR tour through Croatia, during which hundreds of visitors in three cities had the opportunity to try out virtual and augmented reality through interactive demonstrations, VR content, and XR technologies.

The tour included Opatija, Ogulin and Samobor, and the focus was on presenting the possibilities of applying XR in destination promotion, education and tourist interpretations of content.

XR experiences: from Otočac to world destinations

Visitors could experience the promotional film of the City of Otočac through VR headsets with the AR application. Discover Otocac, but also to virtually "travel" to locations such as the Maldives, Mount Everest and Zermatt through 360 contents. In addition, various VR gaming and immersive content were also available.

Technical support and VR equipment were provided by a Croatian company XRPG, while Telemach Croatia via a mobile branch, enabled stable and fast internet connectivity necessary for real-time XR content.

Academic component in Ika near Opatija

The first part of the tour took place in Ika near Opatija in collaboration with the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Students had the opportunity to learn about XR technologies through practical demonstrations.

"The demonstration is designed as a practical experience that provides direct insight into the potential of new technologies in tourism. The faculty has recognized the value of this tool that provides students with direct insight into the latest technologies that are transforming the tourism offering", the Faculty pointed out.

The organization of the arrival and holding of the demonstration at the Faculty was initiated and supported by the Natural Healing Factors Association, as part of activities related to light pollution and negative health effects.

Ogulin and Samobor: continuation of XR promotion

The second part of the tour took place in Ogulin and Samobor, co-organized with the Tourist Board of the City of Otočac. The focus was on direct contact with visitors and the presentation of destination content through VR and AR tools.

"I am extremely pleased that, in collaboration with the XRPG company, we organized a promotional weekend in Ogulin and Samobor, where we brought the beauties of Otočac and Gacka closer to numerous visitors in a modern and interactive way. Through VR Hotelo devices and augmented reality content, interested passers-by had the opportunity to virtually experience the natural beauties, tourist offer and authentic experiences of our region. The reactions of visitors were exclusively positive, which confirms that modern technologies can be an excellent tool in promoting a destination and attracting new guests.", said the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Otočac, Viktorija Rogic.

Conclusion: XR as a tool for tourism interpretation

According to the organizers, the tour showed that virtual and augmented reality are increasingly finding their place in tourism promotion and education.

XRPG Director, Ante Fumić, stated:

"Four days of active promotion and popularization of XR technology in Croatia are behind us. I would like to thank the partners who recognized the attractiveness of this type of promotion. The technology we deal with is extremely interesting, and the reactions of visitors to such promotions make us happy and provide additional confirmation that Croatia is also part of the global movement towards the development of augmented reality and its new applications. We continue with the mission of working on XR and its future through various projects."

The VR on wheels project once again opened the issue of the wider application of XR technologies in the tourism sector, especially in the context of interpreting destinations and creating new experiences for visitors.
