Project VR on wheels - Long weekend tour 2026 has completed a four-day XR tour through Croatia, during which hundreds of visitors in three cities had the opportunity to try out virtual and augmented reality through interactive demonstrations, VR content, and XR technologies.
The tour included Opatija, Ogulin and Samobor, and the focus was on presenting the possibilities of applying XR in destination promotion, education and tourist interpretations of content.
XR experiences: from Otočac to world destinations
Visitors could experience the promotional film of the City of Otočac through VR headsets with the AR application. Discover Otocac, but also to virtually "travel" to locations such as the Maldives, Mount Everest and Zermatt through 360 contents. In addition, various VR gaming and immersive content were also available.
Technical support and VR equipment were provided by a Croatian company XRPG, while Telemach Croatia via a mobile branch, enabled stable and fast internet connectivity necessary for real-time XR content.
Academic component in Ika near Opatija
The first part of the tour took place in Ika near Opatija in collaboration with the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Students had the opportunity to learn about XR technologies through practical demonstrations.
"The demonstration is designed as a practical experience that provides direct insight into the potential of new technologies in tourism. The faculty has recognized the value of this tool that provides students with direct insight into the latest technologies that are transforming the tourism offering", the Faculty pointed out.
The organization of the arrival and holding of the demonstration at the Faculty was initiated and supported by the Natural Healing Factors Association, as part of activities related to light pollution and negative health effects.
