The project was presented yesterday on the campus of the University of Dubrovnik Camino Dubrovnik - a new pilgrimage and cultural-tourist route connecting Dubrovnik and Medjugorje and brings a unique experience of spiritual, natural and cultural journey.

Camino Dubrovnik The path is about 100 meters long. 145 kilometers and is divided into seven shares, adapted to all hiking enthusiasts of different fitness levels and experience.

The starting point of the route is the church of St. Jakov in Dubrovnik, and the final church of St. Jakov in Medjugorje. The route is designed as a seven-day walk - three and a half days through Croatia and three and a half days through Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Pilgrims will pass through areas Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Littoral, Ravno, Neum, Čapljina and Čitluk, enjoying diverse landscapes from the Mediterranean coast to the mountainous parts of Herzegovina. The path is marked with recognizable Camino signage that allows for safe and easy navigation in the terrain.

Mayor of the City of Dubrovnik Mato Franković He expressed his satisfaction with the beginning of the Camino, which, in addition to its religious and spiritual dimension, will also connect Dubrovnik and Međugorje, two tourist destinations, while dispersing tourists to rural areas and thus encouraging their progress and valorizing the natural heritage of these areas.

"These are areas that have not had the benefit of tourism so far. The Camino provides them with the opportunity to develop, to strengthen, to open new accommodation capacities and catering facilities," emphasized Franković and thanked everyone who contributed to the realization of this route.
 
The Director of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, Miro Drašković, said that the interest of pilgrims is great and once again called on economic entities along the route to come forward and actively participate in the project.

Today, on Saturday, March 7th, the first section of this route begins, which will officially mark the beginning of Camino Dubrovnik.

Around 330 registered pilgrims will open the new path, and the program began at 7:30 in the Church of St. James in Dubrovnik with a service of the word and blessing of the pilgrims. After that, at 8:00, the participants set off on the first joint hike - an 18-kilometer section leading from Dubrovnik to Mokošica, with a climb of 402 meters above sea level. Return buses are organized for participants. Libertas Dubrovnik, free of charge upon presentation of a pilgrim's passport.

the Camino de Santiago or the Way of St. James is one of the most famous pilgrimage networks in the world, with a tradition that lasts for more than a thousand years, and the most famous route leads to Santiago de Compostela u Španjolska. Today, the Camino represents a branched network of roads across Europe, connected by the shell symbol of St. Jacob and the universal message of the spiritual path.

Camino Dubrovnik is part of the European network of the Ways of St. James and a member of European Federation of Saint James Way, which further includes Dubrovnik and the wider region on the international map of pilgrimage and cultural routes.
