The project 25th International Climbing Meeting Paklenica 2025, nominated by the Zadar County Tourist Board, won a special award in the category The most sustainable sporting event at the first UN Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Sports Tourism.
This is a prestigious international recognition awarded by UN Tourism for Excellence, in collaboration with the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), which recognizes projects that significantly contribute to the development of sustainable tourism through sport.
The Paklenica International Climbing Meeting brings together climbers and nature lovers in the Paklenica National Park, promoting the concept of "sport in harmony with nature".
Through environmentally friendly climbing activities, educational programs, and strong partnerships with the local community, the event actively contributes to the development of sustainable outdoor recreation, while simultaneously supporting the regional economy and preserving natural resources.
The expert jury particularly highlighted the exceptional efforts of the organizers and the strong impact of the project in promoting sustainable sports tourism at the international level. The awards ceremony was held on Thursday, March 19, in Madrid.
This recognition confirms the continuous work of the Zadar County Tourist Board, which for years has systematically supported the development of events with added value, especially those that contribute to extending the tourist season, reducing seasonality, and strengthening tourist traffic in the pre-season and post-season.
The Paklenica Climbers' Meeting, traditionally held in early May, is an example of the successful development of outdoor tourism that does not disrupt the natural balance, but actively protects and valorizes it. It is precisely such projects that contribute to building the recognizable identity of Zadar County as a tourism destination of special interest.
Let us add that the Dalmatian Cup 2025 project also achieved exceptional success, making it among the finalists in the Outstanding Public-Private Partnership in Sports Tourism category, and was also nominated by the Zadar County Tourist Board.
