Five Croatian destinations receive Green Destinations recognition for sustainable tourism management

Tourist destinations from Croatia achieved brilliant success at the world's largest tourism fair ITB in Berlin, winning prestigious awards for sustainable tourism management.

Silver The Green Destinations award was given Vukovar-Srijem County i Mljet National Park, while Krka National Park got golden Green Destinations recognition.

In addition, two Croatian destinations were in competition for Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards. It's about Ivanić-Grad te Plitvice Lakes National Park, who found themselves among 36 best examples sustainable tourism practices in the world.

This year's number of Croatian representatives at the Green Destinations awards ceremony was the largest to date.

Croatia currently has nine tourist destinations with Green Destinations recognition: two with gold, five with silver and two with bronze status, and several more are in the certification process.

This award ceremony at the ITB Berlin fair was an exceptional opportunity to promote Croatian tourism and destinations that invest in sustainable tourism development. "Green Destinations awards are proof of the exceptional effort and dedication of all employees in tourism, especially those who are directly responsible for managing tourism in destinations. This shows that all important destination decisions in Croatia are made in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. We are particularly pleased that all awarded destinations have shown that sustainable management is much more than the preservation of natural resources, and that they invest great efforts in the cultural, social and economic segment of development.“, she said Dr. Katarina Miličević, director of Tourism Lab, which is the official representative of Green Destinations in Croatia.

There are six Croatian destinations on the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list for 2024, with Ivanić-Grad and Plitvice Lakes National Park standing out in particular, as they were among the finalists of the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards. In terms of the number of destinations on this global list, Croatia is alongside Estonia, Portugal, Slovenia and Thailand, which is the best testament to how much our country is investing in sustainable tourism management and competitiveness in the global tourism market.
