Đakovo embroidery doesn't last ten days. In Đakovo, it lasts the whole year.

When talking about large tourist events, what is most often observed is what is visible: the program, the stages, the number of visitors or the media coverage. However, their real value is not measured only by the days they are held, but also by the relationship that the community builds towards them throughout the year.

This is precisely why the Đakovo Embroidery Festival is unique. Although it takes place in early July, in Đakovo it actually lasts for the entire twelve months. After the end of one, preparations for the next begin almost immediately, and the organization is not limited to a few months of intensive work, but represents a continuous process in which the Tourist Board of the City of Đakovo, numerous cultural and artistic associations, institutions, volunteers and citizens participate.

Sixty years of uninterrupted holding is not only a valuable anniversary of an event, but also confirmation that Đakovo Embroidery has become an integral part of the city's identity.

This is best seen in everyday life. Vacations, family gatherings, weddings, or other important events are often planned around the dates of Vezovi. For many Đakovo residents, these days are reserved for the city and the event that has brought together families, friends, and guests from Croatia and abroad for generations.

But what visitors see is only the final result of months of work. Behind every program, performance and detail are numerous meetings, coordination, agreements and cooperation with folklore groups, partners and institutions. As summer approaches, the intensity of preparations increases, and the entire city gradually enters the rhythm of the largest and most recognizable event in eastern Croatia.

"In the Tourist Board, this process lasts all year round, but it also lasts outside our office, in the everyday life of the city that lives Vezovi just as intensely. Through communication with groups coming from different regions, through agreements that are repeated and built upon, through relationships that over time turn into recognition and trust, Vezovi slowly takes shape. As spring approaches, this feeling begins to intensify. A change of rhythm is felt in the office. Phones are ringing more often, messages are coming from all sides, lists are getting longer and longer. There is a lot of work, sometimes too much, but with it always comes that familiar excitement that cannot be hidden," according to the Tourist Board of the city of Đakovo.

During the Vezova Festival, Đakovo changes its rhythm. The streets become a meeting place, and the city is filled with participants and visitors from all over Croatia and abroad. Of particular value are the folklore groups that preserve the intangible cultural heritage through traditional costumes, customs, songs and dances and pass it on to new generations. Many of the costumes that can be seen are decades old, and some are more than a century old, carrying with them the stories of the families and regions they come from.

In a time when there is increasing talk about the authenticity of tourist products and experiences, Đakovočki vezovi confirms that the most successful events are not those created for the sake of tourists, but those that are genuinely lived by the community. This is precisely why visitors do not come just to watch the program, but become part of the atmosphere created together by citizens, participants and organizers.

This is also the reason why the Đakovo Embroidery Festival has grown beyond the framework of a classic event over the past six decades. It is not just a series of events on the festival calendar, but a way for the city of Đakovo to show its identity, preserve its cultural heritage, and bring the community together around values ​​that are passed down from generation to generation.

Sixty years of such continuity are not a coincidence or the result of a single organizational cycle. It is a process that has been built over decades, a trust that cannot be created overnight and an authenticity that cannot be artificially produced. That is why Đakovo Embroidery is not just an event that is organized once a year.

They are part of the life of the city, which is why it is often said in Đakovo that the Vezovi are not organized, but live.
