National Croatian airline Croatia Airlines welcomed a new Airbus A220-300 in Zagreb, marking another important step in the complete fleet renewal project. The new aircraft bears the registration number 9A-CAS, name Velika Gorica and presents the world's first Airbus A220 painted in Star Alliance colors.
This is the tenth Airbus A220 aircraft in the Croatia Airlines fleet and the third of a total of seven new aircraft whose delivery is planned for 2026. The aircraft, like its predecessors, was delivered from the Airbus factory in Mirabel, Canada, and has 149 passenger seats.
The new symbol of the Croatian national carrier
President of the Management Board of Croatia Airlines Jasmin Bajić he pointed out that the arrival of the tenth Airbus A220 represents an important milestone in the development of the company.
He particularly emphasized that this is the first Airbus A220 in the world with a visual identity. Star Alliance, making the "Velika Gorica" aircraft a symbol of the Croatian national carrier's long-standing membership in the world's largest airline alliance.
The new generation of A220 aircraft, he added, brings greater comfort to passengers, higher quality of service, lower fuel consumption and greater operational efficiency, which contributes to the company's more sustainable operations and the development of Croatian tourism and the economy.
Confirmation of strong partnership with Star Alliance
The arrival of the new aircraft was also welcomed by representatives of Star Alliance, Airbus, and Griffin Global Asset Management, a partner involved in the fleet renewal project.
Star Alliance Vice President for Corporate Strategy Renato Ramos he said that the visual identity of the alliance represents much more than the design of the aircraft.
According to him, it is a symbol of global connectivity, cooperation and the common goal of making multi-airline travel as simple and pleasant as possible for passengers.
Airbus President for Europe Johan Pelissier he pointed out that the first Airbus A220 in Star Alliance colors represents an important milestone in the partnership with Croatia Airlines and confirms the quality and capabilities of one of the most technologically advanced passenger aircraft in its category.
The fleet will include 15 new Airbus A220s by 2027
The fleet renewal project is the largest investment in the history of Croatia Airlines. So far, eight Airbus A220-300 aircraft with 149 seats and two Airbus A220-100 aircraft with 127 seats have been delivered.
Four more A220-300 aircraft are expected to arrive by the end of this year, while the entire project should be completed in 2027.
Upon completion of the modernization, Croatia Airlines will have a fleet of 15 new Airbus A220s, of which 13 will be the A220-300 model and two will be the A220-100.
Strengthening Croatia's international connectivity
As a member of Star Alliance, Croatia Airlines provides its passengers with access to one of the world's largest air traffic networks, connecting hundreds of destinations around the world.
The introduction of the first Airbus A220 in the Star Alliance visual identity further confirms the important role of the Croatian national carrier in the international air network and represents another step towards a more modern, sustainable and competitive aviation, while further strengthening Croatia's accessibility in the global tourism market.
