Air Canada is introducing a new direct route between May 11, 2027 Montreal and Dubrovnik, which will operate three times a week throughout almost the entire summer season, until the end of October.
The new transatlantic connection is important not only because it directly connects Croatia and Canada, but also because Montreal represents one of Air Canada's key transatlantic hubs, through which Dubrovnik will be connected to a number of destinations across North America.
Flights from Montreal to Dubrovnik will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing at 18:15 PM and arriving in Dubrovnik at 8:30 AM the following day. Return flights from Dubrovnik are scheduled for Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing at 10:45 AM and arriving in Montreal at 13:45 PM local time. The route from Montreal will operate from May 11 to October 23, and from Dubrovnik from May 12 to October 24, 2027.
The type of aircraft with which Air Canada enters the market is particularly important for Dubrovnik.
The route will be operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with three passenger classes - Air Canada Signature, Premium Economy and Economy. The company itself highlights the strong premium leisure demand as one of the reasons for Dubrovnik, which positions the new route outside the classic air traffic volume and connects it to the market segment with higher purchasing power. Air Canada also states that it will be the only Canadian carrier with a premium business product with fully flat seats to Dubrovnik and the Croatian Adriatic.
The new route is part of a much wider expansion of Air Canada's network for the summer of 2027, which the company describes as the most extensive intercontinental expansion in its history.
“Summer 2027 represents the most extensive intercontinental expansion in Air Canada’s history, further solidifying our position as the second largest North American carrier by the number of global destinations we serve.”", He said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Air Canada.
Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina He described the new line as an important step forward for Croatia and an additional opening of the Canadian market.
"This is a big and important step forward for Croatia, which further connects our country with the Canadian market and opens up even stronger space for the arrival of Canadian guests, but also for better connections between Croatian citizens and Canada.", Glavina pointed out.
He added that the new line is the result of a strategic approach, continuous work and numerous talks and meetings with partners on the Canadian market, stressing that every new direct line strengthens Croatia's international connections and opens up new tourist and economic opportunities.
For Dubrovnik, the new line comes at a time when positive tourism trends continue. Mayor Mato Franković He pointed out that Dubrovnik reached three million overnight stays on August 22nd, a day earlier than last year, while guests from the US have achieved nine percent more arrivals and nine percent more overnight stays since the beginning of the year. Canada, he said, is also among Dubrovnik's most important distant markets.
"This is much more than just another airline. Dubrovnik is directly connected to one of the most important markets, but also opens up additional connectivity options to numerous destinations in Canada and the United States via Montreal.", said Franković.
During this year's summer season, Dubrovnik is directly connected to 70 international destinations, and transatlantic connections to North America play an increasingly important role in the structure of its international accessibility.
"Air Canada's new route is yet another confirmation that Dubrovnik is recognized as a high-value destination, especially in premium and long-haul markets. Our goal is not to have as many guests as possible, but to attract guests from different international markets, extend the season, develop quality and sustainable tourism, and make Dubrovnik as accessible as possible throughout the year.", Franković pointed out.
The timing of the service is one of the most important elements of the new route. Starting on May 11 and ending at the end of October means that Air Canada does not only fly to Dubrovnik during July and August, but also covers a significant part of the pre-season and post-season. This is especially relevant for long-haul markets and the premium segment, which have the potential to generate higher consumption and demand outside the peak season.
For Dubrovnik, therefore, the new connection with Montreal is not just another new line in the flight queue. It further strengthens the city's position on the North American market, expands accessibility through one of Air Canada's main hubs, and opens up space for growth precisely in the segments that the destination wants to develop more strongly - distant markets, higher-value guests, and pre-season and post-season.
