Dubrovnik is beginning the implementation of the first truly integrated Park & Ride system in Croatia, an infrastructure project that represents a significant step forward in the way the destination manages traffic and tourist traffic.

This is a project that goes beyond the traffic function and enters the very core of destination management, because for the first time it systematically moves access control to the historic core from the city center to its entrance.

That is why this project goes beyond local significance and can already be seen as one of the the most important tourism news of 2026 in Croatian tourism, because it clearly shows the direction in which destinations that want to manage their own space and tourist load in the long term will have to develop.

The City of Dubrovnik begins the implementation of one of the most important infrastructure projects in the field of sustainable mobility: the system Park & Ride Dubrovnik, which is being built in the area Coasts.

The implementation of this investment, which builds on the establishment of the Special Traffic Regime Zone, the electrification of public transport and the digitalization of the transport system, will relieve traffic congestion in the inner city area of Dubrovnik.

The Park & Ride system will function as a key point for traffic redirectionand, allowing visitors access to the historic center without the need to use private vehiclesThe implementation of the project will significantly reduce vehicle entry into the inner city area and encourage the availability and use of public transport.

Total will be insured 572 parking spaces, namely: a car park with 530 parking spaces, of which 28 are intended for people with disabilities, a bus park with 20 parking spaces, a taxi stand with 16 spaces and two bus terminals (one for boarding and one for disembarking), each with three parking spaces.

Mayor Mato Franković he pointed out that it was about the first Park & Ride system in Croatia which, in addition to parking, includes integrated public urban transport s electric buses.

"When the Park & Ride system comes into operation, all street parking spaces that are currently subject to the hourly fee system will be converted into parking spaces exclusively for PPK card holders. Citizens will thus have street parking spaces all to themselves.", the mayor explained

Franković added that the new parking lot in Pobrežje will serve regular public transport line Libertas on the route Osojnik - Pobrežje - Pile and emphasized that it is realistic to expect the full implementation of the system at the beginning of the 2028 tourist season, while the prices for using the service will be defined later.

The Park & Ride Dubrovnik project thus represents not only an infrastructure solution to traffic congestion, but also a concrete example of how a destination can systematically manage access, protecting the quality of space, the lives of local residents, and the long-term sustainability of tourism.

That is precisely why it is not just an infrastructure project, but a strategic step forward that we can already consider one of the most important tourism news of 2026 in Croatian tourism. Why?
